The country has witnessed the highest ever coal production in the year 2023-24. The all-India coal production in FY 2023-24 was 997.25 MT (Prov.). As compared to 893.19 MT during the FY 2022-23, there is a growth of about 11.65% in the FY 2023-24. Not only the coal sector has been able to ramp up the production over the years, it has remained equally sensitive towards environment and society.
The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has launched ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Campaign on the occasion of World Environment Day. Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Modi planted a Peepal tree at Buddha Jayanti Park in Delhi. He has also urged all to contribute in making our planet better and informed that in the last decade, India has undertaken numerous collective efforts which have led to increased forest cover across the nation.
To promote the campaign in the Coal Sector launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”, Union Minister of Coal and Mines, Shri G. Kishan Reddy, inaugurated the Vriksharopan Abhiyan (VA) 2024 at Panchawati Eco-Park, Bharat Coking Coal Limited (a subsidiary of Coal India Limited) in Dhanbad on 25.07.2024. Panchawati Eco-Park, spanning 0.8 hectares, is home to a rose garden, cactus garden, sapling nursery, eco hut, lily pond, and solar-powered lighting, exemplifying eco-restoration and community engagement. Hon’ble Minister inaugurated the Vriksharopan Abhiyan by planting saplings at the park, kicking off a campaign that has involved extensive plantation activities across coal sector. This initiative highlights the government’s commitment to fostering a greener and more sustainable future for generations to come. This event was held simultaneously at about 332 locations across 47 districts in 11 coal/ lignite-bearing states through video conferencing. Minister Shri G. Kishan Reddy commended the Coal Ministry and Coal/Lignite PSUs for their efforts in planting and distributing more than 1 million saplings across various coalfields on the day of VA 2024. The event was also graced by the presence of Member of Parliament from Dhanbad, Shri Dulu Mahato, Secretary of the Ministry of Coal, Shri Amrit Lal Meena, Chairman, Coal India Limited and other senior officials of coal companies. The Official of the Ministry of Coal joined Vriksharopan Abhiyan (VA) 2024 through VC from Shastri Bhawan, New Delhi.
